Polish WW2 Military Vehicles

The military vehicles used by Poland in WW2 were mostly of foreign manufacture. Below are a few examples of military vehicles used or produced by Poland in WW2, along with basic technical data. 

TKS Tankette

The TKS was one of the few combat vehicles that Poland manufactured prior to the invasion by Germany. It was based on the British design by Carden Lloyd, but given a more powerful engine & heavier armor plating. Most were used as recon vehicles & were equipped with a light machine gun which was no defense against German tanks & many were lost.

C7P Artillery Tractor

Built to cope with heavy weather conditions in Poland to get large artillery pieces to areas of conflict, this vehicle was derived from the TP7 Polish design tank & shared virtually the same chassis. Unfortunately most were captured by the Germans & put to use as snow ploughs or towing vehicles.

Production: 151 units

BA 20 Armored Car

Manufactured in the Soviet Union, the main use of the BA 20 was as a scout vehicle. The tires were designed to be resistant to bullets and shrapnel by filling them with a sponge type rubber. It was not an entirely successful vehicle as the armor was too thin to stop anything except small arms fire & the armaments were inadequate.

M3 Half Track Scout Car / Personnel Carrier

Constructed in USA, this vehicle was based on the Citroen Kégresse of the French Military. In order to provide as much reliability as possible many commercial parts were incorporated in the design. It had a single access door in the rear and seating for 12. Five seats were arranged on each side and three seats inside the cab.

Weight: 20,000 lb / 9.07 metric tons

CWS M111

Also known as the Sokol 1000, it was entirely mass produced in Poland & proved to be an extremely versatile & reliable machine. It was used with or without a sidecar & one notable feature was a soft sidecar mounting which gave a much better ride both on & off road. Approx 3400 were constructed prior to WW2.
