Most of the info available is from seeing vehicles on peacekeeping missions or when they are taken to USA for practice on military ranges.

Japanese WW2 Military Vehicles

Apart from Italy the vehicles in general produced by Japan for WW2 were of a much lighter construction than those of other countries. Below are a few examples of military vehicles manufactured in Japan during the war years, along with basic technical data.

Kurogane Type 95 Scout Car

From 1936 to 1944 approximately 4700 of these cars were manufactured by Tokyu Kurogane Manufacturing Industry & was the first 4x4 passenger car to go into production. With its all wheel drive & tall thin tires it was ideal as a rough terrain reconnaissance and personnel transport vehicle.

Type 94 Tankette

This was not a vehicle that went to war against other tanks, it was used by the Japanese Imperial Army mainly for reconnaissance. As with many tankettes produced in other countries it was based on the British design by Carden Lloyd. A total of 823 Type 94 Tankettes were produced.

Su Ki Amphibious Truck

This amphibious vehicle was based on the Toyota 4 x 4 truck and supplied to the Japanese Imperial Army who used it mainly to help supply the various pacific islands they occupied. A total of 198 of these vehicles were produced between 1943 - 1945.

Type 100 Te Re

This was a Japanese Imperial Army armored observers vehicle with a rear compartment that was fitted with a large radio and observation equipment.

This was regarded as an experimental vehicle and not very many actually went into production.

Rickuo Motorcycle

Rikuo, meaning "Land King" or "Continent King." built approximately 18,000 motorcycles between 1937 and 1942, most of which were sold to the Japanese military and Japanese police departments. It was also mated to a sidecar & this version was known as the Type 27.
